Before you buy

The questions lawyers ask.

Can I use Scriben in client meetings?

That depends on where you practise and who is in the room. Recording law and professional conduct rules vary by jurisdiction, and some settings carry their own restrictions. Scriben is designed to be used openly. Ask, and record with permission.

Does this replace a certified transcript?

No. Scriben produces a working transcript for your own review. It is not a certified transcript, a court reporter, or a record for evidentiary use, and it should not be relied on as one.

Does it work as a normal pen?

Yes. A real 0.6mm ballpoint with a replaceable refill. You can take handwritten notes while it records, which is usually what happens.

Do I need my phone during the conversation?

No. The pen records to its own 64GB storage with no phone and no connection. You sync afterwards, over Bluetooth, when it suits you.

Where does the recording live?

Three places, in order. On the pen, encrypted on the device, until you sync it. On your phone, in a local cache encrypted with a key generated on that install and held in the iOS Keychain, which never leaves the device. Then on Scriben’s servers in a single United States region, sent over TLS and encrypted at rest under keys we manage and rotate every 90 days. The audio store blocks public access and logs every access to it, the database has no public route, and each read or delete of a recording is recorded against the account that did it. Deleting a matter deletes the audio and the transcript with it.

How long does it record?

Up to 18 hours of continuous recording, and roughly 400 hours of audio held on the pen before you need to sync.

What does it cost, and what is recurring?
